iTHE PRINT
Gustav Klimt produced a series of landscapes throughout his career inspired by his summer vacations spent in the picturesque town of Salzkammergut in Austria. While on vacation Klimt would often start his day with a long stroll in the woods. In 1901 he produced the mot famous of these landscapes Tannenwald (Fir Forest) I’ which depicts a sea of orange tinted trees rendered in a strict vertical rhythm. The neo-impressionistic and pointillistic dissolution of the trees leads to a limitation of space. To persuade the depth of the wood, trees are aligned on both sides of the painting and opening in a wood glade.

This gallery quality giclée art print has been produced on luxurious heavy weight art paper using archival quality inks resulting in a superior print with pin-sharp detail, rich vivid colours and unparalleled durability.

THE ARTIST
Klimt’s highly decorative, erotic female figures were influenced by an enormous range of sources: classical Greek art, Byzantine mosaics, late-medieval painting, the woodcuts of Albrecht Durer, photography and the Symbolist art of Max Klinger. As a co-founder of the Vienna Secession, a group of artists and architects who formed their own exhibition society and denounced the classical academic training of the time, his work embodied the high-keyed erotic, psychological and aesthetic preoccupations of fin-de-siècle Viennese intellectuals. Klimt was born in Baumgarten, a suburb of Vienna. His interest in art was nurtured by his father, an engraver. His formal training began at the Kunst-gewerbeschule in Vienna, and later he worked as an artist-decorator in association with his brother. The primal forces of sexuality, regeneration, love and death form the dominant themes of Klimt’s work. The rhythmic flowing lines and organic forms of Klimt’s paintings became powerful influences on the Art Nouveau movement.
